![]() In most patients, the swelling is simply a nuisance and as long as the bursa is not infected should not be interfered with. A period of immobilisation of the elbow following the surgery is necessary and does not guarantee that the bursa will not recur. This procedure is usually extremely effective, however, in a small number of patients the wound does not heal properly for up to three months. Some patients will require repeated periods of immobilisation and some patients will eventually come to surgical removal of the bursa. Applying compression with a wrap or compression sleeve and icing the elbow 15-20 minutes 2-3 times per day can help to decrease the swelling. This injection should never be made into an infected olecranon bursa.įor the great majority of patients, simple symptomatic treatment such as using a padded elbow brace or resting the arm on a pillow will be sufficient. If the olecranon bursa is not infected, treatment consists initially of avoiding activities that cause direct pressure on the elbow. While this has been shown to reduce the recurrence of the bursa, it also increases the likelihood of infection. In certain situations it may be appropriate to aspirate fluid out of the bursa or possibly to inject a corticosteroid into it. In addition to these measures an infected bursitis will require antibiotic treatment (this may require admission to hospital or simply be in tablet form). This often involves a resting splint, a compression bandage and ice packs. In non infected bursitis the simplest treatment is simply to stop the elbow moving and allow the fluid filled sac to rest. Treatment depends on whether the bursa is infected or not. In most patients there is no problem with the arm straight, however, symptoms become evident when attempting to bend the elbow beyond 90 degrees or when leaning on the elbow. A swollen olecranon bursa is usually not painful unless it is associated with infection or a specific inflammatory process such as gout or rheumatoid arthritis. Infected bursae are almost always painful whereas non infected bursitis is painful in less than 25 percent of cases. Red, hot skin may indicate an infection. If the elbow was injured, the skin may be scraped or cut.Sudden swelling indicates a traumatic injury or an infection in the elbow.Gradual swelling indicates a chronic or long-lasting condition.Unfortunately it can be difficult to differentiate between an infected and a non infected olecranon bursa and about one in five cases of acute bursitis are, in fact, infected. This can also happen in rheumatoid arthritis. There may be a sizeable lump with calcium seen on x-ray. The most common cause of swelling within the bursa, not related to trauma, is gout. The bursa sometimes becomes enlarged as a result of pressure or friction. With the elbow fully bent a normal bursa cannot be felt. There is a bursa outside the elbow called the olecranon bursa which can be felt around the hard bone of the point of the elbow only with the elbow straight. A bursa is a fluid filled sack between skin and bone which allows the skin to move easily over the bone.

I didn't care if we took a hit with the PayPal tax because we are pretty dependent on PP for everything from club fees to tourney registrations and so on.It pays to know the terms and conditions of the services you use.PayPal is a popular payment processor for businesses and individuals-but things get messy when you mix the two. As a result, I insisted all transactions via PP with our disc golf club be done G&S instead. I think a lot of those people were constantly buying/selling discs via FB and insisting all transactions be done F&F. The wailing and gnashing of teeth on FB was quite a cautionary tale. On a related note a few months ago A LOT of people in the disc golf community got absolutely hammered by PP with accounts getting locked left and right. Yes it does mean tying the PP account to the bank account and I do have to keep a vigilant eye on that situation but at least I know we'd never be more than $100-$200 out if the PP account ever did get locked. While tedious and annoying to do there's the piece of mind knowing that the money is there when needed which is especially helpful the weeks leading up to a disc golf tournament when we have a lot of stuff to pay for and a lot of registration fees are pouring in. ![]() To avoid the loss of funds due to PP locking our club account I am constantly transferring money to the club bank account. I filed a DBA and got a checking account for the club along with a PP account. My other hobby is disc golf and I run a disc golf club. |
